PCB Transformer and PCB Material Disposal

PCB-contaminated electrical equipment requires specialized handling, documentation and disposal. EPS is approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a PCB disposal facility and PCB storage facility and specializes in PCB transformer disposal and the disposal of other PCB-containing electrical equipment.

A Two-Stage PCB Transformer Disposal Process

EPS developed a two-stage process for PCB transformer disposal and recycling. The first stage uses a rinse process, followed by incineration through the EPS furnace. The hydrocarbon solvent used during decontamination is recycled through the PCBX process and reused in subsequent rinse batches.

Designed to Reduce Additional Chemical Risk

The EPS process avoids the use of toxic RCRA chemicals during the transformer decontamination step described in our existing process documentation. Our disposal method is compliant with EPA 40 CFR 761.79.

PCB Commercial Storage and Spill Waste

As an EPA-approved PCB Commercial Storage Facility, EPS can receive qualifying PCB materials for storage before final disposition. EPS also offers landfill disposal for certain waste generated from PCB spills in bulk or drummed form.

  • Other older electrical equipment containing dielectric fluids

If the PCB Concentration Is Unknown

Do not assume an older transformer is non-PCB based on appearance alone. EPS can provide PCB testing to determine the concentration of PCBs in transformer oil and support the selection of the appropriate disposal or recycling path.
