Transformer Oil Recycling & PCB Dechlorination
EPS purifies and recycles transformer mineral oil through its proprietary PCBX process. The process can be performed at EPS facilities and, through sister company Power Substation Services, at qualifying customer sites.
More Than 100 Million Gallons Processed
More than 100 million gallons of reclaimed and dechlorinated oil have been processed through PCBX. The system is designed to remove PCBs as well as contaminants such as water, gases and acids so the oil can be reclaimed for continued use.
PCB-Contaminated Oil
EPS holds EPA permits to dechlorinate transformer oil containing PCBs at concentrations up to 17,780 ppm. Bulk shipments of both non-PCB and PCB-contaminated oil can be received for treatment at EPS processing locations.
Documentation After Processing
Certificate of Disposal or Disposal/Recycling is provided for processed shipments. This provides documentation that the oil was treated through the EPS process.
On-Site Oil Processing
Through Power Substation Services, EPS can support mobile PCBX processing at customer locations in the United States. For qualifying transformers, the process can chemically treat PCB-contaminated mineral oil while the transformer remains energized, avoiding an outage associated solely with the oil treatment service.
Reclassification of Qualifying Transformers
Transformers with PCB contamination in the 50-499 ppm range can be processed through the mobile PCBX process to levels that allow reclassification to non-PCB status, subject to the applicable regulatory requirements and project conditions.
